The one thing you can count on from me is honesty. I have not always been a healthy eater. My favorite things to eat as a teenager were pizza covered in ranch dressing and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with cheese doritos in the middle. I know all about misinterpreting emotional hunger from physical hunger in my body.
Years of eating poorly, not listening to my body, and stuffing my emotions deep down into my gut led to the diagnosis of Irritable Bowel Syndrome, or IBS, which sent me on a journey to change my relationship with food and heal my digestive tract naturally. I truly believe the diagnose of IBS is B.S. Your symptoms of digestive upset are completely real, but it is a matter of finding the underlying cause not just dealing with the day to day flare ups and symptoms.
Discovering yoga and meditation helped me to slow down and tune in to my emotions. I was not allowing myself to feel my emotions on a daily basis and they were getting locked, stuck, and fermenting inside my digestive tract. The change in what I was nourishing myself with physically and emotionally ultimately helped me heal my gut to the point where I no longer find myself in pain and bloated. I have come to view food as medicine.
I received my training to practice at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, the Institute for the Psychology of Eating, Naropa University, and I am Certified with the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. I have studied extensively proper digestion, the Enteric Nervous system, Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Blood Typing, Raw foods, Paleo, herbs, supplements, and cleansing protocol. I support individuals in healing from weight issues, inflammation, allergies, candida, hormonal imbalances, adrenal fatigue, digestive and body image issues. You can read about the system I created and use to cultivate a relationship with the gut brain in my published thesis here.
I know how vulnerable talking about food and our eating habits can be. There is so much shame, guilt, and judgment that go along with our food choices and body image these days. Just know that I have walked your steps, I have explored my own relationship with my body, with food, and the stories held via tension in my own stomach. I have uncovered deep wounds held in my gut and I am here to support you in that journey with total acceptance.
I want to make it clear that I am not a gut guru (I believe we are all our own gurus and contain all the answers, wisdom, and insight we desire within ourselves). I believe that symptoms show up in our body to send us messages. While I am no longer in constant digestive pain, I can eat without fear, and I am barely bloated anymore, when these symptoms show up I now know that I need to slow down and listen to my gut and emotions for information that I may have been ignoring. We are all constantly on healing journeys. I am here to support you in slowing down and tapping in to your innate wisdom to discover your own unique answers in what will work for you.
